The first of a pair of rather grizzly postcards illustrating the aftermath of a lightning storm on the 4th September 1913.
I have no idea where precisely these pictures were taken and no clue as to the publisher other than the initials H. C. in the corner of the card. There is a chance that the enigmatic H. C. may be H. R. Cahill, a photographer know to be working in Princetown in approximately this period. See the image of Helena Village halfway down the page here for another example of his work.
One of the series of cards produced by Kenneth E. Ruth of Ashburton marking the significant snowfall of 1963.
I have no idea where or when this photograph was taken, but if forced to guess I would say 1891 - the year of the Great Blizzard.
Another undated picture, but likely to be 1891, it shows the Imperial Hotel in rather inclement weather.
I purchased this picture from eBay a couple of years ago, but I have no idea of the date it was taken. I do know though that it is a press photograph. On the rear of it is affixed a label. - " TEN FEET OF SNOW ON DARTMOOR. So heavy is the fall of snow un (sic.) the West of England, that on Dartmoor it is ten feet deep in many places. The picture shows the front of a shop being cleared. CENTRAL PRESS PHOTOGRAPH 11B, FLEET STREET, LONDON, E.C."
