Sherbourne and Yeovil Mercury 9 February 1801
"To be SOLD at AUCTION, at Two-Bridges, on Dartmoor, on Tuesday the 24th of February 1801. Twenty-four Sixty-fourth Shares of a late discovered TIN-MINE, on Bear Down, Dartmoor, in the county of Devon, called WHEAL VIRGIN, about one mile from Two-Bridges; to which there is a Stamping Mill of three hammers, and an Engine lately erected for drawing off water, and about two hundred pounds worth of Tin on the grass, of the best quality. The advantages to adventurers in this mine are likely to be great, as she improves much in working. Any gentleman desirous of becoming a purchaser, or wishing to obtain particular information, is requested to apply to Captain Stephen Thomas, at Two-Bridges, on Dartmoor aforesaid."

Wheal Virgin seems to have been a very short lived affair whose exact location is probably lost. At the same time a far more prosperous New Wheal Virgin was being sunk in Cornwall. I suspect that the Wheal Virgin being advertised above was named to try to influence the more credulous investor.
